iPhone OS 3.0 working with iPhone 2G on TMobile with Internet

UPDATE Jun 22, 2009 : My Beta 5 expired the day Apple released the iPhone 3.0 OS. The worst part was, the phone was now stuck at the “connect to iTunes screen”. If I attempt to restore the phone back to 2.2.1 OS, it kept failing with an error. Even putting the phone in DFU mode didn’t help. Finally came across this post http://www.iphoneheat.com/2009/06/how-to-jailbreak-iphone-30-unlock-iphone-2g-on-os-30-with-redsn0w-windows/ which tells you to use redsn0w and it worked like a charm for me. Even my cheapass $9.99 tmobile data plan started working. I just had to replace epc.tmobile.com proxy with internet2.voicestream.com !!!

Installed iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5 on my wife’s iPhone last week. I must say I am really liking the new OS. It definitely seems faster, and the little things they have introduced everywhere, search, landscape keyboard, voice memo…I am liking every single thing.

Great job Apple. Hope the rumors for the iPhone 4G are not just rumors. I will just switch to ATT if iPhone 4g comes out…That was for you Sprint for not letting me activate Palm Pre on my SERO plan.

Here are some screenshots of the OS 3.0 Beta 5 running on my wife’s iPhone 2G.

      If you are a thumb typer, it will make a big difference. I really like it. But if you are driving…or have only one hand available..then you are better off using the portrait mode keyboard.

      Yes, thats what I did. I already had an unlocked + jailbroken phone and I just updated it to the new OS and it worked.

      John, you also sent me an email that after doing the same, your iphone does not recognize the tmobile SIM. Thats weird but not to worry… ultrasn0W is being released this friday which will allow you reunlock your phone.

      I compared my phone to one of my colleagues. He doesnt have that setting too. The only difference being that he has a 3G and I have a 2G. Plus, mine is jailbroken and unlocked both.

    So I’ve jailbroken/unlocked my phone months ago for use with T-Mobile. I wanted to access the $1 per day Sidekick unlimited data plan, so I used hiptop.t-mobile.com for the APN, alongside “dummy” (as username) and “dummy” (as password.) Everything was working fantastically; I got my unlimited data and texting for 4 or 5 months until just a couple days ago. I ran out of prepaid minutes so I had to refill my phone with a landline, but when I turned it back on none of my data services worked, except email! I had the little “e” up top signifying edge connectivity, but I couldn’t get any edge access except for email! Please help, I’m VERY confused, and I really want my data back, because I’m still paying for it!!!

    Ps. It’s an 8gb 2g, I think, if that helps at all.
